The future St. Dorothy’s Catholic Church began with four families who met each Sunday for Mass at the old Warlick Funeral Home

· 1944 – First became a mission of St. Therese parish in Mooresville

· 1955 – Property is purchased for the construction of a church in Lincolnton

· 1957 – A total of 4 families celebrate weekly Mass in an office

·1958 – A 1,260 sq. ft. building was donated

·1961 – The building is enlarged by 950 sq. ft. to include a permanent altar and 14 pews -

·1969 – It becomes a mission of Our Lady of the Consolation Church in Charlotte

·1970 – A total of 25 families celebrate weekly Mass

·1973 – A total of 50 families celebrate weekly Mass

·1976 – The mission is named St. Dorothy’s parish by Bishop Michael J. Begley, first Bishop of the Diocese of Charlotte

·1990 – Plans for a new church are discussed

·1993 – Ground is broken on February 27 for the existing 6,400 sq. ft. church

·1994 – Church construction was completed

·2011 – Sanctuary beautification project to build a new altar

·2017 – 202 families celebrate weekly Mass at St. Dorothy’s

·2023 – 450 families celebrate weekly Mass at St. Dorothy’s

·2024 – “Building for Future Generations” Capital Campaign began on October 6.

 

St. Dorothy’s Catholic church has long benefited from the rich wisdom and spiritual leadership of all the priests who have shepherded our ever-growing community. We thank God for our One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic St. Dorothy’s parish, and for all those who sacrificed, are sacrificing, and who will now answer the call of Building for Future Generations for the betterment of our parish family and glory of God.
