Youth Ministry

Calling all youth grade 6 and above!  You know you want a night away from home from time to time to watch movies, eat a little junk food, and play fun games that YOU enjoy!  Well, it just so happens that St. Dorothy’s has a growing Youth Group that gathers twice a month on a SUNDAY afternoon from 1:30 – 5:00 pm in the social hall throughout the Faith Formation year.  (check the calendar for this month's date!) We need you to help make the time together with others who are like-minded both fun and meaningful!

Calling all parents of our youth!  Do you remember the last command that Jesus gave to his disciples before he ascended to Heaven to be with the Father?  You’re right! It was the Great Commission. He gave this final instruction to his faithful followers, to go to all nations and make new disciples.  Although we won’t be traveling to other nations, we will be in communities near Lincolnton at times during the year. As Catholics, we can respond to the Great Commission in many different ways. Youth Ministry is one such response.  Our goals for your 6th -12th graders are in line with those of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB):

  • To Help Empower Our Young People To Live As Disciples Of Jesus Christ In Our World Today

  • To Draw Young People To Responsible Participation In The Life, Mission, And Work Of The Catholic Faith Community

  • To Foster The Total Personal And Spiritual Growth Of Each Young Person.

Some of the ways we can reach these goals are by responding to their pastoral needs and involving them at St. Dorothy’s and in the larger community. Since the St. Dorothy Youth Ministry is dedicated to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, with your prayers, Mary’s intercession, and God’s grace, we are confident we will achieve our goals and more.

“As a baptized member of the Church, Jesus Christ calls you to follow in his footsteps and make a difference in the world today. You can make a difference! . . . In the words of Pope St. John Paul II:  "Offer your youthful energies and your talents to building a civilization of Christian love . . . commit yourself to the struggle for justice, solidarity, and peace." (Homily at World Youth Day, Denver, 1993).

Please, encourage your 6th -12th graders to join in the fun!
