Catechesis

Catechesis is the act of handing on the Word of God intended to inform the faith community and candidates for initiation into the Church about the teachings of Christ, transmitted by the Apostles
to the Church.

Catechesis also involves the lifelong effort of forming people into witnesses to Christ and opening their hearts to the spiritual transformation given by the Holy Spirit.

Adult Formation / OCIA

Faith is a gift of God, a supernatural virtue infused by Him. "Before faith can be exercised, a man must have the grace of God to move and assist him; he must have the interior helps of the Holy Spirit, who moves the heart and converts it to God, who opens the eyes of the mind and 'makes it easy for all to accept and believe the truth.'" (CCC153)  However, with St Thomas Aquinas we must say, "We cannot have full knowledge all at once. We must start by believing; then afterwards we may be lead on to master the evidence for ourselves."

OCIA - the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults - is the process by which those who seek union with God in His Church and the fullness of faith are instructed, prepared, and begun on the journey of "mastering the evidence." Coming into a full relationship with God in His Church takes the seeker through stages of inquiry, training, purification and preparation before the joyous reception into the Church founded by and through Jesus Christ Himself.
